Modern Flames is arguably the best electric fireplace on the market and their pricing reflects that. This table will help you compare the pricing of the Orion vs. the Landscape.

Breaking it down a little further, the slim version of each series is less expensive than the multi. Though the flames are the same within each series for both models, the multi versions feature three-sided glass as well as a larger, deeper flame viewing area.

You’ll notice that the sizes vary between the Orion and the Landscape. The difference in size may only weigh in as a factor if you are looking for specific dimensions to fit your project.

Orion Flames vs. Landscape Flames

Flame Technology

The flame technology is the biggest thing that separates the Orion Series from the Landscape Series.

The Landscape features Modern Flames’ Hybrid-FX flames. This is their original flame technology which works similar to the majority of electric fireplaces. A metal rod with a flame cutout pattern rotates around a light strip which casts a flame onto the back panel of the fireplace.

The Hybrid-FX flame has a full, furious flame appearance which stands out distinctly from the majority of electric fireplaces

The Orion features Modern Flames’ HELIOVISION flame technology. This is known as a virtual flame which displays a flame on a high-definition screen.

The Orion also has a reflective back panel which reflects the flames and logs giving it an appearance of depth. It makes it look like flames are coming out of the middle of the logs which is a really nice effect.

Orion vs. Landscape

Flame Styles

Another difference in the flame technology is that the Orion has three different flame display settings. You can choose a gas, wood-burning, or hybrid flame. No other electric fireplace on the market gives you this option!

So if you want to change the flame style for your fireplace, you’ll want to go with the Orion.

Fun fact: Modern Flames hired a video production studio to shoot footage of actual gas and wood-burn flames and then had the footage programmed to the Orion fireplace.

Flame, Ember, & Canopy Colors - Modern Flames Orion vs. Landscape

Both the Modern Flames Orion and the Landscape give you full-spectrum flame color options using a color wheel selector. This is a feature you won’t find in other brands of electric fireplaces.

Each series also gives you the option to change the ember bed and canopy lighting colors.

Heat - Orion vs. Landscape

There is no difference between the Orion and the Landscape heaters. Each series features a high-efficiency PTC ceramic heater.

There IS a difference in the heating capabilities between the slim and multi models.

Orion Slim: 5,000 BTU

Orion Multi: 5,000 - 10,000 BTU

Landscape Pro Slim: 5,000 BTU

Landscape Pro Multi:5,000 - 10,000 BTU

The multi models for the Orion and Landscape give you the option to produce 10,000 BTUs if you install the fireplace with a 240V hookup instead of a 120V hookup. Most won’t need that much heat, but it’s a nice option if you have a larger room and chilly winters.

Media - Orion vs. Landscape

Orion: Black reflective glass and Western Driftwood Log Set.

Landscape: Black Smoke Media, Clear Acrylic Crystals, and Western Driftwood Log Set.

The log set is the same for each series, but the glass media that comes with them is different. The black smoke media isn’t as dark as the black reflective glass and the Landscape gives you the option to use clear crystals, which can help you achieve a more elegant look.

Optional Mantel Kits - Orion vs. Landscape

Both the Multi versions for the Orion and Landscape give you an option to purchase a mantel set.

Warranty - Orion vs. Landscape

Modern Flames is hands down one of the most reputable manufacturers of electric fireplaces out there. Their products are extremely reliable and their 5-Year warranty reflects that.

That 5-Year warranty applies to both the Orion and the Landscape.

Modern Flames is always extremely responsive and easy to work with if we ever have to action a warranty with them as well.

Modern Flames Orion vs. Landscape Review

We love the Orion. It’s the most realistic electric fireplace on the market. It looks amazing and our customers agree.

The Orion also has features like full-spectrum color options, the ability to program time, colors, and heat settings for certain times of the day, and multiple flame styles. You can’t find these features in any other fireplace.

Most of our customers who purchase the Orion are building a new home and are looking for the best fireplace out there.

If you want the absolute best and you can afford to go with the Orion, that’s where we are going to steer you. You won’t be disappointed!

The Landscape is a very solid fireplace as well. The furious flame pattern is unique and it too has a full-spectrum color option that isn’t found in other fireplaces.

For the price range that the Landscape falls in, we usually steer customers towards the Dimplex Ignite XL Evolve. The Evolve has a reflective backing which gives the appearance of depth, but you may still prefer the fullness of the flame effects of the Landscape.

If the unique features of the Landscape don’t entice you and the fullness of their flame pattern isn’t something you have to have, you may want to consider another electric fireplace at a more affordable price point. Look at brands like Touchstone, Napoleon, and Amantii.
